Today was strange…Oh wait first…last night’s fireworks..they were amazing, we were all expecting this little Italian village show…a few little kabooms..We were so wrong. The fireworks were at the medieval tower at the very top of the town, there was this amazing Italian music in sync with the show too! The fireworks came from all directs, the neatest part was when the fell like a water fall down the tower towards us all. Needless to say we were very, very impressed. Ok so back to today, we woke up and got a 730 coach bus to Assisi (we took this because the first train wouldn’t get us there till 1130sh and that was just not ok by Anns standards, ha.) After arriving and getting our coffee…normal routine now, we met at the fountain in front of Santa Chiara and toured the church. In the building, which is special for many reasons- one of which is it’s dedicated to a woman, two it holds the crucifix that spoke to St. Frances. After this we made our way to the temple of Minerva in the center of town..Then we went to the huge St. Frances shrine/church. The whole church (which is huge) is covered wall to wall in amazing fresco paintings, is quite impressive. We did a quick walk through, grabbed a bite to eat then I returned to the church, for it shared to rain, and literary I drew for about 3 hours. I said today was strange because after having visited several cities Its easy to get a feel for what’s a tourist town and not. Assisi is defiantly one, there were huge masses of people and shops all carrying the same gifts. Not that this is bad, just not so fun to spend the whole day in, plus the rain didn’t help. Also if you think about it its pretty strange that they built this huge elaborate church and making money off of a guy who is famous for standing for the complete opposite. Anyway Its Alicia, my other roommate’s birthday and we’re about to go into town…im exhausted…want sleep! Ha
Ciao
