Pisa, Pisa!

6/7/08

Today began at about 5am for me…why why! Ha-ha we caught an early train to Florence and were going to connect there to Pisa. Unfortunately our first train was running about 10mins late and our connection was only 15mins long, so by the time we all got off the train, ran (like in the movies) figured out where our train was and ran there. It was pulling out, haha. I couldn’t help but laugh. No big deal really, we just caught the next one about 30mins later still arriving in Pisa around 10am. As soon as we hopped of the train we made a mad dash across the small city to the cathedral and tower, trying o beat the crowd. Actually it wasn’t too bad and yes we all attempted to take the stereotypical tower photos. I say attempted because its not as easy as it looks and the tower is in the middle of all these buildings, not set alone as soon in so many pictures. After this the group split up with a set meeting time and place to catch the train back for dinner. I went off with 5 girls and we decided it was a day to shop, felt a bit guilty being in this city with tons of history to see but we do this every day, so shopping was in order! We looked, ate, looked some more, some people bought stuff but I just enjoyed looking. Eventually we decide to go see this mini gothic church by the river, which I’m really glad we went to see and then it was time to catch our 430-train home. No trouble connecting this time, but you could see that everyone was tried of the traveling and ready to eat. We made it back jus tin time, literarily walking into Santa Chiara and down stairs to warm food. After a quick shower, traveling all day can really make you feel icky; we all decide to go the “pirate bar” for a drink and to relax from the day. I almost didn’t go, but am really glad I did. The bar is in a really neat building and I was good just to be silly together out in our town. We also watched part of the Portugal soccer game, which was very fitting for the atmosphere. A ping-pong match began as we returned home and then bed, finally! Overall a very good but exhausting day.
